No problem to write in German, I can read it almost like my own language (Dutch). Writing is a nightmare for me... :grins:

No the camshaft for 2008 is identical to 2007. No change at all. I think a 104 big bore kit would be something like 850 to 1000 euro's. I would be the first to order it! :peace:

The Duke and SMC have the same camshaft as the SM models. The different performance figures come from the different exhausts and the (smaller) airbox from the SMC.

The (very) large airbox from the SM and Duke is extremely good. An open K&N filter won't bring much. If anything at all besides a lot of noise... I hope KTM will bring out a big more kit for the 690. A 104mm piston & cylinder will take it up too a real 690cc. There is a rumour about such a kit coming... :Daumen hoch:

(I can read German but I can't write it, sorry! :traurig: )

    @Rames

I hope I can write this in English. I can read German perfectly but I can't write it! :traurig:

Your rear fender with the indicators looks really good! Did you mount the indicators directly on the plastic fender or is there some metal bracket behind it?

When I look at the fender on the 690 it seems that the feet of the indicators are wider than the fender but on your bike it looks like it fits perfectly?

    Hello all,

I am a long time lurker on this great forum. I can read German perfectly but I can only write in English! Writing in German is just soooo difficult. Sorry!... :kapituliere:

I have sold my 990 SD and ordered the first 690 SMR (with the Akra system) in Holland almost 2 months ago. But my dealer has also ordered the SMC so I can still switch if I want. In the meantime if have a 690 SM demo bike from my dealer to use as long as I want. Great!!

I like the SMC very much too because of it's great looks. But I think the SMC is a style/image/marketing product. It has nothing to do with 'Competition'. The SMC uses the enduro/off-road frame/chassis. This frame is almost 10cm narrower with thinner frame-tubes than the SM frame so it's less stiff. It also has extremely long suspension travel of 275/260mm F/R. Both are clear disadvantages for the street. Also, the wheelbase is longer and the steering-head angle is slower too. And last but not least, the Centre of Gravity (zwerpunkt?) is higher is further back due to the fueltank at the rear. Good for an off-road bike, not so good for a street bike.

There is no way the SMC can handle and steer as good as the SM(R)/Duke chassis on the street. Especially not at higher speeds. And it doesn't make any sense from a design point of view either. If the enduro frame/chassis would be just as good or better on the street, why would KTM go through all the trouble and cost of designing a totally different frame and setup for the street oriented models SM & Duke?

I have ridden the SM demo for a few hundred KMs now and I can only say that this is the best handling and steering bike I have ever ridden. Even much better than the 990SD. It's absolutely stunning an sooooo much fun!! :sabber:

    Hello all!

Sorry for writing in English. I can read German perfectly but I can't write it...

I have a black 05 SD and I am struggling with the early flashing fuel light too. :traurig: There is something strange going on with the 05 and 06 fuel pump and fuel sensor. When a KTM dealer looks in the KTMs official online parts & service system (Dealernet) at the fuel pump of the 05 SD this screen comes up:

This is in Dutch but it says: WARNING: This part has been replaced by the following parts:

These parts replace the 05 fuelpump so they must fit the 05 tank. The big questions are; what is the umrustkit and more important, what has changed and does this solve the early flashing fuel light? So far nobody at KTM or KTM dealers seem to know or want to find out... :sehe sterne:

    Does anybody know??
